To stop the processes (applications and services) that are running on Windows I believe You often do so from the Windows Task Manager.
  • Besides these ways, there are other ways you can do that is by through DOS Prompt. The trick is as follows:
  • Go to dos prompt by typing cmd from the Start menu - Run.
  • Write
  • tasklist and hit enter, it will show a list of running processes like the image below:
  • Find the name of the process that you want to stop, then look for its PID number.
  • Suppose you want to stop the Firefox program, then wrote:
  • tskill 1844, then hit enter. Done
